A short defense of the personal website

Every few years someone asks why bother with a personal site when Twitter, LinkedIn, and Medium already exist, all with a distribution advantage no index.html will ever have.

The honest answer is that distribution was never really the point. A personal site is one of the last pieces of the internet you fully own — no algorithm decides who sees it, no redesign changes it out from under you, no platform can shut it down.

That's reason enough to keep one, even a small one like this.
